Small-time bands mostly don't use backing tracks, but he's probably right about the Big Time. It becomes important for a Big Time band with hits - and an audience who might not be fans of the band as such, but come for the hits - to perfectly duplicate the sound of those hits. Big Hits tend to have synthesizers and polished backing vocals by studio professionals, and a rock band will almost always need backing tracks or extra musicians to do that on stage. Look at how many people Springsteen has! But Halestorm seem to be basically a live band who don't want to have that type of hit, or don't want to enough to compromise their approach. And why should they? They're probably already making a good living at what they do.

John just to let you know I'm a big fan of Skillet. Just started to listen to your music and you all are great sounding. Love that you are Cristians and still play hard music. Keep the faith and keep playing. Missed you in Evansville in December. Hope you will come this way soon.
